Sketches and drawings are effective basics for my way of working in the figurative way. In any case a good timeless oblective excercise in the subjective sence of the word...

This is a study of an almost mythical Aruban tree, the most famous tree ever, in Aruba! This study was part of a step by step painting lesson published in the art magazine PALET, one year before 'someone' tried to cut it down.
A scratch-drawing of my artist partner and love Yvonne. After years a 'real drawing' again, not tecnically perfect maybe, but with 'authentic feelings', I believe...
Actually a myth since this touristic symbol was cut down and turned into an 'icon' in the divene madness of the Aruban Artworld... A special tree-doctor was flown in and people even prayed for survival of the tree... This was painted some months before it was cut down.
Sketch of Jasmine in 2006 is just a quick sketch as I used to do in my study period in Paris, Madrid and Amsterdam amongst others. Nice mementos. These quick sketches used to start at about F100,- A real professional drawing started at about F250,- And a caricature started at F25,-
This painting was painted in the first days after the collapse!! After this historical collapse, for Aruba, of the natural bridge, there was a unique Natural Dam created, but also an unprecedented BEAUTY and reflection of the force and timelesness of the sea that inspired from the first day the bridge collapsed!! Beautiful!
Improvisation with red, blue and yellow was one of the hundreds 5 minutes study sketches made at the Art Post-Univeristy courses I attended in Madrid after my academic diploma. I couldn't help my imaginary Aruban sun, sea and sand, flowing from my mind... in Spain.

During my post-university doctoral studies we had to experiment with almost all known art techniques and give each a personal touch. Academic artists from around the world worked together in the same space reflecting the globalisation of the Arts... Here a bamboo pen and inkt experiment of mine in '86...
Academic sketch at the Rietveld academy in the last years(5th). Now I give the lovers of this subject the opportunity to buy this beautiful and original quicksketch in red chalk, that normally is not for sale.
Drawing from study period! 'Academic study' with techniques to reach 'the perfect drawing', which doesn't exist (for me!) I believe art should transmit more than just technique and a nice picture... Technique does help a little, of course!
Ge Nijhuis in 1980 already was the owner of one of the largest art galleries of Holland. He saw me sketching and believed there was such a stunning resemblance that he offered me a solo-exposition at once and an invitation for participation in group expositions... He told me he believed in what he just saw! I was puzzled... but happy!
An old sketch from my student period as preparation for a painting of this beautiful young girl. The sketching technique already looks like my actual way of sketching... from the soul! Ge owner of the leading Artgallery in Enschede believed in the promise of my work and invested!
One of my first drawings at the Minerva Art Academy, when I started after a couple of weeks I got the opportnity to draw with the highest clases. The teachers were believers... a fairy tale of godgivven talent ?!
