desire to fly away the first postcard pattern of william morris {1834-1896} taking control
memento vivi: desire to fly away ('Swinging on the branches of the Weeping Willow,<br /> feeling secure and safe,<br /> I grew; as did my desire to leave.'<br /> <br /> I always wondered where I would 'swing' to if I swung high and hard enough on the branches. I thought I could be much more than a tree climbing girl.) memento vivi: the first postcard ('Curaçao has it all: a turquoise sea, white beaches, burning sunshine...<br /> the only thing missing is you!'<br /> My first attempt to create a postcard. I sent this one to the Netherlands and was critizised for the copy. Nobody likes to be burned by the sun...<br /> I wasn't there yet.) memento vivi: pattern of william morris {1834-1896} (After I created Emma, I needed a pattern which could be the background. I choose for William Morris. At first I used his pattern to be the background. After a while I thought it didn't connect with Curaçao, so I create my own background.) memento vivi: taking control ('I have a world inside me,<br /> dark and obscure, silent and still.<br /> Enter you cannot; thorns are guarding my soul.<br /> But should you wish to visit, bring your patience and be reassured;<br /> for this world of mine, kills only time.'<br />Words were my way of taking control of my life again. I had to structure what had happened, to understand me.)

feeling homesick    
memento vivi: feeling homesick ('Sometimes I sail the seven seas <br /> looking for a new beginning<br /> it makes no sense<br /> my heart belongs to Breda'<br /> <br />In August 2002 I moved to Curaçao, leaving my heart and soul behind in my hometown Breda. The moment the airplane landed on the airport of Curaçao, I felt I had lost everything that had belonged to me. I felt rejected and lonely.)
