I was busy constructing a cross , a practical one , on which to nail ourselves .Indeed my Master teaches us that the cross stands for the crucifiction of the Ego , so that the awarenness of the Spirit may rise .
I crossed 2 segments of telephone pole, made them stand on a Karma wheel , got a small letter i of reefstone on the beach and stuck a pair of iron Feet ( for the safety of the operation ) at the bottom .( you can view the sculpture in the gallery at Sculptures wood , crucify the small i )
Still , some was missing .I then proceeded to cut 3 small crosses out of a 55 gallons drum and inserted them on top and sides to complete the work .I did cut these out with a large oxygene torch , but i remarqued that one of them was not burn in the center and 3 letters were still apparent . V.O.L .I knew it to mean Flight in french or may be the abbreviation for volume ...Anyway it did nt make much sense at the time .The piece was even exposed with the lettered iron turned around so that you could see a mysterious flat fish on the other side which had not burn either .
Nevertheless , i turned it back 2 month later and then saw an arrow i had missed the first time , kind of begging me to reverse the letters .And then V.O.L became my new symbol for L.O.V . The most essential of the process and purpose of crucifiction was revealed in a totally unpremeditated way .And furthermore that association brought light on a long personal art history where people patiently got flying lessons from birds in order to escape the misery of everyday earthly bond problems .
Of course , i went to investigate where it came from and found on a similar drum the following inscription ' NO VOLCAR ' which in spanish means ' DO NOT TURN IT AROUND '
